Grant Guidelines
The Foundation will fund as many qualified projects as its annual budget allows. Please review the following guidelines in detail if you would like to request funding from the Foundation. The Board of Trustees will meet periodically to review potential grants.
Eligible Institutions

While the scope of the Foundation's efforts are largely centered on the environment and alternative health care modalities, the Foundation has the flexibility to contribute to such other causes as the Trustees believe are consistent with the Sohns' vision, including alleviation of poverty, education and the arts.

A. The Foundation makes grants to private and publicly supported, not-for-profit, IRC approved 501(c)(3) tax exempt agencies, institutions, and organizations.

B. The Foundation makes grants to eligible institutions whose mission involves:

  • The Environment
  • Health and Human Services
  • Education
  • Arts
  • Fundable Projects

In general, grants are restricted and may be made for projects and programs that enable the applicant to continue to fulfill its proven mission of servicing the needs of the community. The projects include but are not limited to the following:

  • Existing programs
  • Expanded programs
  • Capital campaigns
  • Restrictions on Giving

In general, the Foundation does not support grants for the following:

  • To cover operating deficits
  • Endowments
  • Loans or financing of any kind
  • Annual appeals, dinner functions and special fund raising
  • Progress Reports
The Foundation requires a progress report at the completion of the funded project to review progress and to verify that the funds were used for the stated purpose.
    Site Visits
A site visit may be required before funding.
